Texas Holdem Poker Growing Again

Published by Frank Probstein under Poker

Texas Hold’Em is the most popular version of poker played in casinos. It is a fast-paced game that can be played by multiple players. Texas Holdem is a betting game but the basic actions and winning hands are the same as normal poker.

By the early 90s we were hearing a lot about Texas Holdem, The reason Texas Holdem became so popular was due to being able to have ten players in each hand. With seven card stud, and draw poker, the cards in the deck in most all cases are seen.

Evaluating how the other players are likely to bet is the most difficult part of Texas Hold Em poker. It is often said that the best poker players play the other players rather than the cards in their hands. It is certainly true that when playing skilful poker players the numbers on the cards become less relevant than the psychological battle between the opponents.

If you are the dominant chip leader then being careful not to lose it pick off your opponents one by one, and throw plenty of chips around when medium stacked players try to dip a toe in the water. Always be on guard for high cards on the flop because these will generally be matched, especially so by the all-in short stack.

There is nothing like having patience and being rewarded for it by a bunch of poker maniacs. If you do not know what a poker maniac is you soon will if you are constantly playing cash games. What a poker maniac is, is a player that is constantly playing stupid. For example, constantly going all in with mediocre hands and calling and going all in with just about anything is an example of a maniac.

The first thing you should know about how to play Texas Hold’Em is the hand rankings. Texas Hold’Em is a variation of Seven-Card Stud, and the order of hands is the same as for standard poker. Because there are no wild cards, the highest possible hand is a Royal Flush, which is five cards of the same suit in sequential order from Ten to Ace.

Control your mood: As when you play Texas Hold’em it is equally important in having perfect playing mood, otherwise you are gone. An awful mood can even spoil your game.

In many situations, it’s best to just wait until you have a fairly good hand. A high pair or a typical two pair would do just fine; they don’t necessarily need to be Aces. When you have a relatively good hand just get in the game against the beginner player who would beginning to get the hang of the game.

A rule of thumb is that the fewer opponents, the more likely you’ll be able to take down an uncontested pot. Another rule of thumb is that if you have a drawing hand, a big pot, and a small bet to call, then you should call. If the pot’s small, and the bet’s big, then you should fold.

It is in your best interest to be aware of the Texas Hold’em basics like the commonly used terms and minimum and maximum permitted bets in a game. With a solid grounding in the basics, you can chart your own Texas Hold’em poker strategy depending on your experience and skill sets.

A good poker room will teach you how to play the games you want, and give you a chance to practice for free if you’re new or just want to improve your skills. Then when you’re ready you can find a seat at a table anytime to play live poker.

If your bet modifies the pot size such that it improves their pot odds (by limping in with just a small bet), you’re actually encouraging the opponents to hang in there with you, since they still have a good, positive (and improving) expectation level. If you bet enough, such as two to three times the size of the big blind, you’ll be reducing their pot odds enough to swing into a negative expectation.

There is no point in playing for play money, the only true way to gain a grasp on online poker is to play for real money. When playing for real money it is extremely important to develop a cash game strategy to make you a stable income day after day and month after month.

Playing poker online from the comfort of your own home and making enough money to pay your mortgage, car note, support your family, and put food on the table is every advent poker players dream. You don’t need any online poker tools or learn any online poker cheating.

As you progress in learning Texas Holdem strategy, additional lessons are assigned, such as interactive poker videos where your decisions are recorded. You then discuss your decisions and questions with your poker mentor via email.

Star Poker Players

Published by Kilo Grande under Poker

Poker has become a big time TV enent in the last few years. That, along with the explosion of interest caused by online poker, has led to the best players gaining celebrity status. I have listed just a few of the most well known players below.

Daniel “kid poker” Negreanu is now one of the biggest names in poker. He gets plenty of TV time on show like High Stakes poker, plus many final table appearances in TV covered tournaments. He gets more airtime with commercials for Poker Stars. He has won four World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelets, and over $10,000,000 in tournament earnings.

He has an impressive tournament record. Danile has won four WSOP bracelets, and over $10,000,000 in prize money. He has a pleasant demeanor at the tables, very talkative and cheerful.

Doyle Brunson is an old timer that can still compete. He has been at the WSOP from the first event on. He has two WSOP Main Event wins, a feat accomplished by only four players. The other are Johnny Moss, Stu Unger, and Johnny Chan. He has 8 other WSOP bracelets giving him 10, tied for second behind the 11 of Phil Helmuth.

Many consider Doyle the best poker player of all time. He has won big events in four different decades. Born in 1933 Doyale won a major event as late as 2004 at age 71, and his last bracelet in 2005, at 72. Last year Doyle had a good run in the $50,000 WSOP HORSE event going out 16th and cashing $124,000.

Anni Duke is one of the best in a game that is dominated by men. There are other great women players, but Annie has gained a lot of popularity to go with her success. She gained a lot of notoriety when she finished 10th in the 2000 WSOP Main Event. It was a significant achievement, especially when you consider that she was eight months pregnant.

2004 was an outstanding year for Annie. She finally won a WSOP bracelet. She followed this up by winning the 2004 World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions, and collecting a cool $2 million for her efforts. She developed her game while growing up, at home, battling her brother Howard Lederer, another outstanding poker pro,

A lot of people think Phil Ivey is the best player world. Aside from his tournament wins, he reportedly won $16 million from Andy Beal, a billionaire, mathmatician, high stakes poker player. The story goes like this. A group of pros formed a group called the corporation, to pool their money and play Beal. The Corporation is made up of Doyle Brunson, Todd Brunson, Howard Lederer, Jennifer Harmen, Gus Hansen, and Ted Forrest who pooled their resources and poker bankrolls to play Beal. After a few session with Beal the corporation was down their original stake, about $10 million. At this point they brought Phil Ivey onto the team. Beal agrees to lower the stakes from $50,000/$100,000 limit to $30,000/$60,000. After two days, Ivey is up over $6 million. They agree to go back to $50,000/$100,000 the next day. By the end of the day, Phil has won another $10 million, for a total of $16 million in 3 days. The things that ledgends are made of.

Phil exploded on the tournament scene when he won 3 events in the WSOP in 2002. He has two others win at the WSOP giving him 5 bracelets. His tournament earnings are over $9 million.

Phil “poker brat” Helmuth won the WSOP Main Event in 1989. This win is historic in that he is still (as of 2008) is the youngest, at 24 years old, ever to win the Main Event. He also has won the most WSOP bracelets, with 11.

It’s not just the titles that make the poker brat so well known. He is famous for his outbursts at the table. When he gets a bad break, he lets everyone hear about it. One of his more famous quotes, after laying down a hand when his opponent had pocket aces, was, “I can dodge bullets baby”.
