Profiting In Online Poker Tournaments Is Possible
Are there players who make a living from online tournaments? Yes, there are players who make a lot of money in online tournaments. There are stats available, let’s see how they do it.
First thing we see is that these guys play a lot of tournaments. One player, who made $200,000 on one site in one year of play, was in over 2,200 tournaments. He averaged paying $175 per event. His return on investment was 52%.
In one poker room alone, in one year our player played in over 2,200 tournaments. His average buy in was $175. With a 52% return on investment (ROI), he made over $200,000!
Even if he plays every day, this still means he’d have to play over six tournaments a day. This means he plays multiple tables at once. This is normal for most of these top earners.
One of the good things about playing so much is that you go through the ups and downs in a fairly short time. Your bad streaks are over in days or weeks instead of months or years. This is much easier to handle mentally.
There are good reasons that players play multiple tables. If you can sustain the quality of your play, you profit much faster. Also, this keeps you busy, some players play even better when they multi table. Even the best players online only make money in about 15% of the tournaments they play. The reason they profit is they occasionally hit a big result.
They make more deep runs. They are willing to take chances to get a big stack that they can use to win a tournament. They know that this is essential in making profits in MTTs.
Are you a winning player? This can be hard to know until you have enough tournament data. Once you have played tons of tournaments you will see the real you. One big win or a streak of bad beats will throw your result way off.
Once you know your basic ROI stats, you can start to control how much you make. If you are a 100% ROI player, and you invest $400 in tournament play, you will profit $400 a day, on average.
The stats tell us that most top tournament players play a lot of tournaments. The exception might be an occasional high stakes player. And, in spite of such a high volume of play, they keep a decent ROI of at least 50%.
